Katie Jane Elizabeth Eckhardt

On February 12th, 2010, My wife Jennifer and I went to the Obstetrician’s office for what had become almost routine for us: a non-stress test. Because of my wife’s “advanced age” and her gestational diabetes, we regularly saw a maternal-fetal spacialist and monitored the baby’s heartrate and movements.
Because the last baby, number five for us, was born breech, Jennifer required a cesarean section. Because of the litigious nature of our society and the unwillingness of any doctor to take the less-than-one-precent chance of a uterine rupture, my wife was destined to have another cesarean, so one was scueduled for February 23rd, two days before the baby’s due date.
On the 12th, however, the baby’s movements were not optimal. Given the age of my wife, her diabetes, etc., Dr. Pottinger decided that the baby should come out that evening. So it ewas that Katie Jane Elizabeth Eckhardt was born by cesarean at 8:29 in the evening. She weighed 6 lb., 8 oz. and was 19.75 inches long. She is the only Eckhardt baby out of six to have hair, and just a cute as she can be!
